The Willows restaurant Seven Clans Casino Warroad - A review

This is a personal review of the Willows, a restaurant at the Seven Clans Casino in Warroad Minnesota. As part of bus tour to the casino in November, I had occasion to visit the Willows restaurant for lunch and dinner. This is the only formal restaurant in the casino. The Willows restaurant is spacious with a nice, even though indirect, view of the Lake of the Woods.

Service

When we visited the restaurant it was mostly empty so service was fast. The servers on three occasions were very friendly. We were lucky to have the same server twice. However, on the day we were leaving we went to the restaurant to get a take out and it was a very unpleasant experience.

The woman at the cash register who took our order and who appeared to be a supervisor had the worst customer service skills. We had a coupon for our meal so the balance was just $2.00. She said she couldn't take a credit card for less than $5.00. We offered to add a tip to bring that amount over $5.00 which we were able to do previously but she flatly refused saying it is not allowed.

She also refused to take Canadian currency and told us we had to got to the casino to get the money changed. We only had half an hour to catch our bus but she didn't seem to care. Instead she seemed angry and when I told her we were able to add a tip on three other occasions, she said the servers were wrong.

I also observed one night as we were leaving the restaurant that a group of men were waiting to be seated for a long time and it appeared that they were being ignored even though there were servers walking around and the restaurant was not full. They were finally seated after we paid our bill.

The food

Food at the Willows was good even though variety was lacking. I had the walleye on two occasions and the shrimp on one. The fish was good but the shrimp was lost in all the breading. There was a serious lack of vegetables on the menu. No vegan options and if you are gluten free, no options were available. There was a small salad bar but it was only available for dinner.  My partner had a hot beef sandwich, a Reuben sandwich and a chicken breast dinner which he said were all good.

A visit to the Pirate Museum in Nassau Bahamas

pirate museum, Nassau, Bahamas, image Ashauntae Located in the heart of downtown Nassau is the Pirate Museum and a must see for tourists who want a glimpse into the history of piracy especially as it relates to the Caribbean.  Inside the museum you will find a true replica pirate ship which hosts most of the exhibits on two floors. Enter if you dare. It can be like entering a haunted house with sights and sounds of an era past on a pirate ship. The first room on the ship belongs to the ship's carpenter who had the most important job on the ship. The ship holds many historical facts about famous pirates, their conquests and their demise. There are replica jails, re-enactment image  of a gruesome surgery at sea, and other pirate artifacts. On the outside of the museum you can take your photo locked in the stocks. All in all it was a very informative experience.

The Cattail Cafe at the Seven Clans Casino, Warroad MN - A Review

Cattail café Seven Clans Casino, Warroad, review - image Google The Cattail café is conveniently located next to the casino and across from the gift shop. Here you can grab breakfast, lunch or dinner on the go in an informal, pedestrian type setting. The food The menu at the Cattail has your usual burgers, fish and chips and chicken dinners. There is a marked absence of vegetables and coleslaw seems to be the closest thing to green you will see. Don't expect any special treatment if you are vegan or gluten free . You don't always get what is on the menu as it seems they are not always able to prepare what you ask for and bluntly tell you they can't get you what's on the menu without giving a reason. I ate there once and had the fish and chips which was okay. Service at the Cattail Service was mixed when I visited. The serving staff behind the counter were pleasant enough but not very accommodating. I asked if they had veggie burgers and the guy looked at

Walking the Grand Trunk Trail - Starting out

Headingly Grand Trunk Trail (Image: ©AAshauntae) The Grand Trunk Trail in Headingly Manitoba, Canada is an abandoned railway route. This railway was originally constructed by the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway and was operational from 1894 to 1972. It covers some 10km from the Perimeter Highway to the Beaudry Park. I am walking this trail in stages. This is an account of the first day and the first part of the trail. Walking the Grand Trunk Trail (Image: ©Ashuntae) The first part of the trail is virtually free of any structures or trees but instead flanked by expansive farmers' fields on either side. You do feel like you are in the middle of nowhere between the ground you are walking on and the big blue sky above. This part of the Grand Trunk trail is open so it provides no protection from the elements for several miles which means you need to dress appropriately for the walk. There are also few people you will encounter along the way which means you pretty much have the
