The Seven Clans Casino and Hotel, Warroad MN - A review

Seven Clans Casino Hotel Warroad, Review - image Ashuntae I visited the Seven Clans Casino in Warroad MN as part of a bus tour the last week in November. It was a 3 night4 day trip billed as the tour company ’s Annual Holiday Party . Below is a personal assessment of our casino and hotel experience. Check in We got to the Seven Clans Casino   and hotel early so we had to wait for our rooms. No problem as we were all dying to check out the casino and grab a late lunch. Check-in was relatively easy as a special desk was set up in the conference room for the two bus loads of visitors. We were paged when our rooms were ready. The hotel room The room was quite large with two well made double beds. The full length windows faced a marshland with a view of the Lake of the Woods . The bathroom was clean, bright, airy and roomy with an ample supply of towels. A keurig coffee maker, fridge and microwave were all valuable amenities to the room. While the room was quite spa...

The Cattail Cafe at the Seven Clans Casino, Warroad MN - A Review

Cattail café Seven Clans Casino, Warroad, review - image Google The Cattail café is conveniently located next to the casino and across from the gift shop. Here you can grab breakfast, lunch or dinner on the go in an informal, pedestrian type setting. The food The menu at the Cattail has your usual burgers, fish and chips and chicken dinners. There is a marked absence of vegetables and coleslaw seems to be the closest thing to green you will see. Don't expect any special treatment if you are vegan or gluten free . You don't always get what is on the menu as it seems they are not always able to prepare what you ask for and bluntly tell you they can't get you what's on the menu without giving a reason. I ate there once and had the fish and chips which was okay. Service at the Cattail Service was mixed when I visited. The serving staff behind the counter were pleasant enough but not very accommodating. I asked if they had veggie burgers and the guy looked at...

The Willows restaurant Seven Clans Casino Warroad - A review

This is a personal review of the Willows, a restaurant at the Seven Clans Casino in Warroad Minnesota. As part of bus tour to the casino in November, I had occasion to visit the Willows restaurant for lunch and dinner. This is the only formal restaurant in the casino. The Willows restaurant is spacious with a nice, even though indirect, view of the Lake of the Woods. The Willows Seven Clans Casino Warroad - Image the Penny Pincher Travel  Blog Service When we visited the restaurant it was mostly empty so service was fast. The servers on three occasions were very friendly. We were lucky to have the same server twice. However, on the day we were leaving we went to the restaurant to get a take out and it was a very unpleasant experience. The woman at the cash register who took our order and who appeared to be a supervisor had the worst customer service skills. We had a coupon for our meal so the balance was just $2.00. She said she couldn't take a credit card for less than...

The Trouble with Norwegian Dawn embarking and disembarking

On a recent cruise I took with the Norwegian Dawn (NCL). I was shocked by the utter disorganization getting on and off the ship. I have previously cruised with Celebrity Millennium and had no such difficulty. We boarded at the New Orleans Port and it was a disaster; uncaring staff, wrong directions and total chaos reigned especially at disembarkation. READ FULL REVIEW

The Machete a great place to eat in Cozumel

(C) Ashaunte 2015 I was in Cozumel, Mexico last week and came upon this unassuming eatery as I walked through the streets of Cozumel. There is no shortage of  places to eat in Cozumel. I hung around the cruise ship port area, shopping and taking in the sights. Restaurants along the way were actively greeting tourists, menu in hand with attempts to lure you into their restaurants. However, on one side street we noticed the sign "The Machete" and was somehow drawn to it. There were weathered wooden table and chairs on the sidewalk and no one was brandishing menus and enticing you to enter. We approached the doorway and as we were scanning the posted menus, a group just leaving told us that the food was very good. That was all we needed. Soon we were offered a table by the very casual and amiable waiter. I ordered a vegetable fajitas and my partner the chicken fajitas. I had expected the usual run of the mill fare that we get back home but was pleasantly surprised ...

Iberostar Laguna Azul in Varadero Cuba

Image Iberostar Laguna Azul (Source PennyPincherBlog) After much encouragement from my travel agent we decided on the Iberostar Laguna Azul in Varadero Cuba. It was our first trip to Cuba we had a glorious week of fun, sun, adventure and  relaxation at the Iberostar Laguna Azul in Varadero Cuba. Breakfast buffet (Source PennyPincherBlog) FOOD .  We had read negative reviews about the food in Cuba being bad but the food selection to be very good in terms of the wide variety of vegetables, fruits and overall choice of dishes available. However, if you are a vegan, vegetable protein sources like beans were often cooked with some kind of meat. Since there were sufficient meat dishes available there was no need to add meat to the beans. There was a marked absence of whole wheat or whole grain breads or cereals during our stay.
