Having just acquired our first motorhome, it was time to start planning trips to campgrounds. We would start  in Manitoba and work our way across Canada and eventually to the United States. To our surprise available campgrounds were in short supply. It seems like due to COVID-19 and stay at home orders, campgrounds had become a high demand commodity.

With perservance we managed to find three nights in the St Malo Provincial park in mid July. The highlight of St Malo is it's family friendly twin beaches.  One of the beaches called sunset beach is the ideal location to watch the sunset. St Malo beach is also great for swimming in this motor-free waters here which also makes it a great location for canoeing, kayaking and sailboarding.

Other attractions included a mini golf, several hiking trails with easy access to the beach, an ampitheatre and just outside the campground is the  Grotto at St Malo which hosts an annual pilgrimage in August. We had hoped to do some fishing but didn't find many adequate fishing spots. While there were several access points for sifhing the water was covered with weeds. We did do some fishing but no luck.

The RV spot we had was adequate but with a full campground, privacy and quiet times were at a premium. The days we were there seems like there was some type of celebration involving several families of a religious group who occupied several camping spots near ours. The last night we were there must have been the finale of the celebrations as it got extremely noisy and carried on late into the night.

Our first RV trip went well except that on day 2 we ran out of water when we thought we had a full tank. We didn't have water hook-up, just electric and made the big mistake of traveling without a water hose of containers for collecting water. Luckily we were referred to the campground host who came with a hose and helped us conntect to water and we were good to good. Very grateful to the campground host who helped us.

St Malo Provincial park, is about 40 minutes drive from Winnipeg. It is ideal for families with a well stocked consession stand in the form of a train carriage. Beaches are clean and spacious, sunsets are gorgeous and hiking trails are easily accessible and not too challenging.

A visit to the Pirate Museum in Nassau Bahamas

pirate museum, Nassau, Bahamas, image Ashauntae Located in the heart of downtown Nassau is the Pirate Museum and a must see for tourists who want a glimpse into the history of piracy especially as it relates to the Caribbean.  Inside the museum you will find a true replica pirate ship which hosts most of the exhibits on two floors. Enter if you dare. It can be like entering a haunted house with sights and sounds of an era past on a pirate ship. The first room on the ship belongs to the ship's carpenter who had the most important job on the ship. The ship holds many historical facts about famous pirates, their conquests and their demise. There are replica jails, re-enactment image  of a gruesome surgery at sea, and other pirate artifacts. On the outside of the museum you can take your photo locked in the stocks. All in all it was a very informative experience.

The Cattail Cafe at the Seven Clans Casino, Warroad MN - A Review

Cattail café Seven Clans Casino, Warroad, review - image Google The Cattail café is conveniently located next to the casino and across from the gift shop. Here you can grab breakfast, lunch or dinner on the go in an informal, pedestrian type setting. The food The menu at the Cattail has your usual burgers, fish and chips and chicken dinners. There is a marked absence of vegetables and coleslaw seems to be the closest thing to green you will see. Don't expect any special treatment if you are vegan or gluten free . You don't always get what is on the menu as it seems they are not always able to prepare what you ask for and bluntly tell you they can't get you what's on the menu without giving a reason. I ate there once and had the fish and chips which was okay. Service at the Cattail Service was mixed when I visited. The serving staff behind the counter were pleasant enough but not very accommodating. I asked if they had veggie burgers and the guy looked at

Walking the Grand Trunk Trail - Starting out

Headingly Grand Trunk Trail (Image: ©AAshauntae) The Grand Trunk Trail in Headingly Manitoba, Canada is an abandoned railway route. This railway was originally constructed by the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway and was operational from 1894 to 1972. It covers some 10km from the Perimeter Highway to the Beaudry Park. I am walking this trail in stages. This is an account of the first day and the first part of the trail. Walking the Grand Trunk Trail (Image: ©Ashuntae) The first part of the trail is virtually free of any structures or trees but instead flanked by expansive farmers' fields on either side. You do feel like you are in the middle of nowhere between the ground you are walking on and the big blue sky above. This part of the Grand Trunk trail is open so it provides no protection from the elements for several miles which means you need to dress appropriately for the walk. There are also few people you will encounter along the way which means you pretty much have the
