The Seven Clans Casino and Hotel, Warroad MN - A review

Seven Clans Casino Hotel Warroad, Review - image Ashuntae

I visited the Seven Clans Casino in Warroad MN as part of a bus tour the last week in November. It was a 3 night4 day trip billed as the tour company’s Annual Holiday Party. Below is a personal assessment of our casino and hotel experience.

Check in

We got to the Seven Clans Casino  and hotel early so we had to wait for our rooms. No problem as we were all dying to check out the casino and grab a late lunch. Check-in was relatively easy as a special desk was set up in the conference room for the two bus loads of visitors. We were paged when our rooms were ready.

The hotel room

The room was quite large with two well made double beds. The full length windows faced a marshland with a view of the Lake of the Woods. The bathroom was clean, bright, airy and roomy with an ample supply of towels. A keurig coffee maker, fridge and microwave were all valuable amenities to the room. While the room was quite spacious, there was not enough furniture or place for storing clothing and other items. There was one small end table, a few small drawers below the TV cabinet and a tiny table where the coffee maker was. The cleaning staff was excellent.

Amenities

We were quite disappointed that the spa was out of order when we got to the hotel and remained that way until the last night of our stay. It is a 10 person spa with two exercise machines in the room, The spa was enjoyable as when we made use of it on the last night. Great thing about the spa is that it wasn’t crowded and it is open 24 hours - when working that is. Free coffee, tea and drinks were available on the casino floor 24-7 which was much appreciated.

A dry casino and hotel

For those of you who like your beer or wine, it is important to note that this is a “dry casino” No alcohol is sold or consumed on the premises. However, since your bags aren’t searched on arrival, there is no way to tell how strictly this policy is enforced and how much liquor is actually consumed behind closed doors.

The Casino experience

While there is no drinking in the casino, smoking is allowed which can be very uncomfortable for guests who don’t smoke. I had a permanent burning sensation in my nose and throat and had to take frequent trips outside in the cold to get some relief. We got a $20 player credit and those who lost enough money to reach 275 base points in any single day, won an ice fishing rod and reel. Unfortunately I didn’t make it nor was I a big winner or loser. One member of our tour group did win $1,000.

Player Services

It was an enjoyable, even though not a lucrative playing experience, except for a poor customer service experience in the casino. On our first night in the casino while my partner was playing on the $20.00 credit, he found he could not play at any other machine nor could he leave the one he was at. He spoke to player service who said they couldn’t do anything and were neither helpful or pleasant about it. Seems his credit was somehow stuck in that one machine and it remained active if he left the machine. It was obviously a glitch but the player services refused to do anything to rectify the problem even though they recognized it was a glitch of some sort. He was therefore forced to sit at that machine until the credit was all played out.

Summary

The hotel and casino was far removed from walking distance of the town but the bus did stop at Doug’s supermarket on the way to and from the hotel. We did get a daily $10. credit for meals at either the Cattail or Willows restaurant. Read my reviews on these by following the link. The main floor washroom next to the banquet hall was missing soap for our entire stay. The security personnel at the main doors were always courteous and helpful, opening doors for us and always with a friendly attitude.

A visit to the Pirate Museum in Nassau Bahamas

pirate museum, Nassau, Bahamas, image Ashauntae Located in the heart of downtown Nassau is the Pirate Museum and a must see for tourists who want a glimpse into the history of piracy especially as it relates to the Caribbean.  Inside the museum you will find a true replica pirate ship which hosts most of the exhibits on two floors. Enter if you dare. It can be like entering a haunted house with sights and sounds of an era past on a pirate ship. The first room on the ship belongs to the ship's carpenter who had the most important job on the ship. The ship holds many historical facts about famous pirates, their conquests and their demise. There are replica jails, re-enactment image  of a gruesome surgery at sea, and other pirate artifacts. On the outside of the museum you can take your photo locked in the stocks. All in all it was a very informative experience.

The Cattail Cafe at the Seven Clans Casino, Warroad MN - A Review

Cattail café Seven Clans Casino, Warroad, review - image Google The Cattail café is conveniently located next to the casino and across from the gift shop. Here you can grab breakfast, lunch or dinner on the go in an informal, pedestrian type setting. The food The menu at the Cattail has your usual burgers, fish and chips and chicken dinners. There is a marked absence of vegetables and coleslaw seems to be the closest thing to green you will see. Don't expect any special treatment if you are vegan or gluten free . You don't always get what is on the menu as it seems they are not always able to prepare what you ask for and bluntly tell you they can't get you what's on the menu without giving a reason. I ate there once and had the fish and chips which was okay. Service at the Cattail Service was mixed when I visited. The serving staff behind the counter were pleasant enough but not very accommodating. I asked if they had veggie burgers and the guy looked at

Walking the Grand Trunk Trail - Starting out

Headingly Grand Trunk Trail (Image: ©AAshauntae) The Grand Trunk Trail in Headingly Manitoba, Canada is an abandoned railway route. This railway was originally constructed by the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway and was operational from 1894 to 1972. It covers some 10km from the Perimeter Highway to the Beaudry Park. I am walking this trail in stages. This is an account of the first day and the first part of the trail. Walking the Grand Trunk Trail (Image: ©Ashuntae) The first part of the trail is virtually free of any structures or trees but instead flanked by expansive farmers' fields on either side. You do feel like you are in the middle of nowhere between the ground you are walking on and the big blue sky above. This part of the Grand Trunk trail is open so it provides no protection from the elements for several miles which means you need to dress appropriately for the walk. There are also few people you will encounter along the way which means you pretty much have the
